Betty Boop Composite Artwork

September 30th, 2001
Even though work stopped for a week or so, it's the end of September, and The Betty Boop Pages are pretty much "finished". Today, I add the navigation bar to all pages, with the four basic art sections. This page will link to all Danbury Mint composited art pieces. The other sections will be for Images taken from the web, hopefully public domain. And Cartoon Fun will start with video captures of the original cartoons.

Nearing evening on Sunday afternoon. No, it's only 3pm. Since I've been up since 5am editing composites, time has been rushing by. I haven't gone out, needed to wash the car and mow the lawn, but I'm in the puter room creating more Bettys.
The more I post, the more I like them, too. "Virtually" anything that can be imagined can be composited. I've added two new pages with two images each.  Two of the images utilize Bettys taken from the web, and two are with collectibles. The "Betty on the Moon" composite is an example of how simple one of these can be, and I think it is still effective.

This is the first of my newly designed Betty Boop pages. I put up the index, and a page of photographs of my collectibles, mainly from the 3-d plates collection. back in 1999. I had visited many sites dedicated to "The Queen of the Cartoons", some had interesting history, some had excellent photo jpegs, and all were put together with the care and love that an iconic figure like Betty Boop commands.
I felt I wanted to do something special with my Betty Boop pages. I wanted to show off photos of my collectibles, but had an idea of positioning the images in different backgrounds. This plan sat stagnant for a long time, as I took the time to learn the programs I needed to create the art.
With these few images, I have begun in earnest.
I hope to have a good many of these composited pieces in the futue. I hope this generates some interest among the Bettyrati. I want to do something with the original b&w cartoons too. I have them all on tape. So, herewith, the Betty Boop gallery of composited art.

The photo background is from Printmaster's clip art gallery, and Betty is a 15" tall porcelain doll.
First, the doll is photographed in front of a neutral background. (I use the bigscreen tv, and set her on a piece of black cardboard. I'm experimenting with lighting. The highlights here are natural coming from the open door.)
Next, I open the captured image in Picture Publisher, and mask her as an image. Then import her into the desired background. Crop, add effects if desired, and viola'.
Instant Betty Composite. (Well, not "instant". They take time to 'create'.
